Climb over high passes to take part in village life in these varied and timeless Shangri-La valleys, where there is always time for a welcoming cup of tea or lazing in Leh on a sunny afternoon. Arrive in Delhi and experience the ultimate in luxury and hospitality at elaborate hotels, and take a guided city excursion to visit bustling bazaars with their rich and vibrant textiles, colored saris, pottery, and jewelry. Enjoy the delicious flavors of Indian cuisine in the colonial architecture preserved in this energetic cosmopolitan city. Head out to the city of Agra to see the majestic Taj Mahal, and don't miss Rajasthan's palaces of Jaipur and Ajmer-Pushkar.
City centers and mankind's constructs aside, the further you get away from the trodden tourist circuit the more interesting India becomes. Head out to the National Parks of Bandhavgarh, Pench, and Kanha in Central India to experience the country's first and only wildlife circuit in the well known tiger reserves of Madhya Pradesh. Track the endangered Bengal Tiger, and while marveling at this amazing animal, learn ways to help ensure its continued survival. As a final stop, hit the coast in Goa, India's smallest province but one rich in beaches and world heritage architecture. The options are truly endless in India and you haven't even tasted all the food yet!
Delhi — Arrival
Upon arrival into Delhi International Airport you are personally met and transferred to your accommodation in New Delhi — a calm, luxurious first taste of India's energetic capital.
Old Delhi & Jama Masjid
Ride a rickshaw through Chandni Chowk to the Jama Masjid — the largest and most glorious mosque in India, built by Shah Jahan in 1656 — then drive Lutyens' Delhi past Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate to the Qutub Minar and Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first garden-tomb of the subcontinent.
Bandhavgarh National Park
Fly to Jabalpur and drive to Bandhavgarh National Park, cradled between the Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges. A relatively small park with a thriving tiger population, its dense green valleys, rocky hills, and grasslands hold one of India's highest concentrations of this magnificent animal.
5: Tracking the Tiger
Explore the dense jungles of Bandhavgarh on early morning and afternoon game drives in an open 4x4 with a trained naturalist. Dawn breaks over the jungle as you enter; afternoons bring the chance of the elusive leopard and the calls of jackals ready to hunt.
Kanha National Park
An early morning safari, then a drive to Kanha National Park — prime tiger wilderness and one of the first areas protected under Project Tiger. Lush sal and bamboo forests open into vast grassy maidans, with the Banjaar River forming the park's border and watering abundant wildlife.
8: The Sal Forests of Kanha
Explore the sal and bamboo forests of Kanha on morning and afternoon drives. Meadows of grazing herbivores — including the extremely rare Barasingha — draw tiger, leopard, and wild dog to the clearing edges for a final drink at the Banjaar River.
Return to Delhi
After a final morning safari and an early lunch, drive to Nagpur and fly back to Delhi, arriving to the comfort of your hotel and the flavors of a last Indian dinner.
