Day 3 / HUMPY COVE
Sea Kayaking
Humpy Cove is an ideal location for sea kayaking – a protected and scenic cove; rugged coastline; snow-capped mountains; frequent sightings of harbor porpoise, sea otters, river otters, harbor seals, Steller sea lions and the occasional Orca (killer) whale and Humpback whale. A popular destination for many guests is a salmon stream within Humpy Cove (30 minute paddle) where thousands of pink salmon spawn each July/August and where many bald eagles congregate to feed. Contending with the bald eagle at the dinner table are the black bears who are adding pounds as they approach their hibernating period. A short hike to the head of the stream reveals a majestic waterfall which cascades into an elevated pond.
More challenging paddles outside Humpy Cove include Sandspit Point on Fox Island to the south and Thumb Cove to the north. In addition to the marine life regularly observed in Humpy Cove, a variety of bird life is likewise on display throughout the summer months as thousands of seabirds nest and feed in nearby waters. Marbled murrelets, black-legged kittiwakes, bald eagles and cormorants are regularly seen within the cove; and other seabirds, including common murres, horned and tufted puffins, are seen just outside Humpy Cove. Whatever your interest, photo opportunities abound in Humpy Cove and its nearby waters for both the novice and experienced kayaker.
Overnight Cabin (Yurt) (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Day 4 / HALIBUT FISHING
On your fishing charter out of Seward, you will travel 40 to 55 miles along the coastline to the fishing grounds, exploring “near-coastal” fisheries up and down the coast to Seward’s most prolific Halibut fishing grounds. You will fish in depths ranging from 50 to 425 feet, depending on sea conditions and where the Halibut are. Since the weather can be volatile you will never be more than 3 to 10 miles offshore, meaning your captain can easily turn inshore to protected waterways if needed.
Overnight Lodge / Chalet (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
After a relaxing morning you will board your private seaplane for a 2-hour flight to Chelatna Lake . After checking in at the lodge you will have the remainder of the day to get settled into your new surroundings or participate in one of the many activities the lodge has to offer.Chelatna Lake offers a gateway to some of the finest rainbow trout and grayling fishing in the state. Whether you prefer to fly-fish or spin-fish, your professional and experienced fishing guide will be vigilant in sharing their local knowledge to help you locate and catch fish. Chelatna Lake offers perfect waters for fishermen, from the novice to the experienced fly-fisherman.
This two-hour seaplane tour covers more of the Alaska Range than any other available. On this unforgettable flight you will cross over the Alaska Range and witness the arctic alpine tundra of the north side of Denali National Park’s remote interior, follow the river systems of Talkeetna into an incredible landscape of icefalls, glaciers and snowy peaks, and behold the many faces of North America’s tallest mountain. You will witness the majesty of Denali from every angle, as well as the Wickersham Wall – one of the highest vertical rises on the planet. During your tour the seaplane will land on a glacier in Denali National Park, allowing you to further explore the beautiful landscape most dream to just see from a bird’s eye view.
Overnight Lodge / Chalet (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
One of the most popular activities is a private day hike into Denali National Park. Your guide takes you up into the park via an ascending trail that first leads you through alpine meadows exploding with wildflowers, then along meandering streambeds with cascading waterfalls, and as you head uphill, you hike along the towering rock faces that herald the beginning of the majestic Alaska Range. All along your way, you encounter breathtaking panoramas of the lake and surrounding glacially formed valley. The best part is you will have the place to yourself, as if you were the first to ever explore this territory. Other exciting hikes are available and take you along salmon-spawning streams, through arctic tundra, and across boreal forest that allows you to experience the heart of the Alaskan Bush for yourself.
After breakfast you will board your private seaplane for a 1-hour flight to Anchorage where you will then be privately transferred to the Anchorage International Airport for your flight home.
